★ Review ★ The Two Gentlemen of Altona

The Two Gentlemen of Altona

Book Series #: 1
Author(s):  Lisa Henry & J.A. Rock
Summary:

Mischief, thou art afoot.
Special Agent Ryan “Mac” McGuinness is having a rough week. Not only is he on a new diet, but he’s also been tasked with keeping Henry Page—the world’s most irritating witness—alive. Which is tough when Mac’s a breath away from killing the Shakespeare-quoting, ethically-challenged, egg-obsessed Henry himself. Unless killing isn’t really what Mac wants to do to him.
Con man Henry Page prefers to keep his distance from the law . . . though he wouldn’t mind getting a little closer to uptight, handsome Agent McGuinness. As the sole witness to a mob hit, Henry’s a valuable asset to the FBI. But he’s got his own agenda, and it doesn’t involve testifying.
When evidence surfaces of a mole in the FBI office, Mac and Henry are forced to go into hiding. Holed up in a fishing cabin, they’re surprised to discover that their feelings run more than skin deep. But as the mob closes in, Henry has to make his escape. And Mac has to decide how far he’s willing to go to keep Henry by his side.
Rating: ★★★★/5

♥♥♥

This is the first installment of Henry & Rock's Playing the Fool series. This the first time that I've ever read a work written by either author. I think that for this being the first work together that they work wonderfully.

I love how they've brought the main character, Mac, down to a normal level. Because so many times we read in genre of police officers we get these ridden down bad ass'. A lot of the time they are basically untouchable and in this case Mac is trying to get healthy. He isn't obese by any means but he's just trying to get back into shape. The best part is that his vice is the cop cliche of donuts!  Mac starts off grouchy and unpleasant from having to have gone on the diet and he takes us to a crime scene of where a crime boss has murdered a rat. Poor Mac gets tricked by a hot local cop into thinking his witness of the crime is inside the house. Or at least he thought it was a local cop but it was none other than Henry Page! He's a seductive conman with a bountiful lot of sass that even I can adore! He's got this twisted past that's going to be a wild ride to find out about. The two are tied in a cat and mouse hunt while Mac tries to figure who's after Henry. Henry who appears to have this intricate web of people that helps him through his drifter life. I love the sexual tension and angst that comes from the first installment and I can't wait for the next book! Poor Mac! He's going to be the cat in this chase for a little while. I can feel it :)
